The first church in Roerslev was built in the 12th century, with choir and nave in Romanesque style from fieldstone, dedicated to St. Peter.
In the 15th century, the church was rebuilt and extended both east and west, gaining vaults instead of a wooden ceiling and a porch.
The tower was only added in 1760, when a burial chapel for the lords of Hindsgavl Castle was also created at its base.
