Nørre Næraa Kirke

Take a walk in the past

The church in Nørre Næraa dates back to the 12th century. It is built in granite boulder.
The church was restored in 1883-84.

There is a runic stone in the wall. The stone was found on the churchyard in 1684.
In 1842, it was moved into the church, and later, it was built into the church nave.
The runic stone dates back to the Viking Age – about 800 AD.
The inscription says ’’Thormund brug kumlet’’, which can be interpreted as "Thormod, may these (magic) runes be beneficial for you".
