Today, the building itself appears largely as it did after renovation and extension work around 1500.
In 1986, a thorough restoration of Tøstrup Church was completed. The old building was brought up to the best technical condition, and the church interior now presents itself differently than before, when the furnishings were painted dark brown with oak grain, and the walls and vaults were covered with whitewash.
Now the space is characterised by the uncovered frescoes from 1582 and the similarly uncovered polychrome decoration from 1839 on the altarpiece and pulpit.
The church was rebuilt in Gothic style with vaults. In 1582, the entire church was decorated with post-Reformation frescoes, the likes of which are found nowhere else.
There are lively ornamental bands and leaf garlands in many colours. One gets the impression of a vaulted leafy hall. In 19 vaulted fields, there are portraits of prominent prophets and apostles, each placed in their own floral chalice.
The baptismal font is romantic Djursland-style granite, beautifully crafted with carefully carved foliage tendrils. In 1984-86, the church underwent extensive restoration.
