Skulptursti Ørsted Kirke

The finest piece of silverware found in Ørsted Church is the old altar chalice. The chalice originally comes from a set of twelve chalices in Roskilde Cathedral. On New Year's Day 1613, Anne Krabbe, widow of Blessed Jakob Bjørn of Stenalt, donated the chalice to Ørsted Church. The chalice was an heirloom from Anne Krabbe's father, Erik Krabbe.

The chalice had come into the family's possession as spoils of war in Sweden. At the time, the chalice was at a Birgittine monastery in Vadstena. How the Swedes got hold of the chalice in Roskilde is unknown, but if you want to see the chalice up close, it is used in the church on major holidays.’

The church is open from 8am - 4pm on weekdays in May, June, July and August. If you want the church open at other times, please contact the church caretaker. The key can be borrowed. See notice at the church.
