Step Back into the Bronze Age
Maglehøje consists of protected burial mounds that offer a unique insight into the past. Originally, there were more, but many have been ploughed over time. An excavation in 1890 revealed an oak coffin, bones, and fragments of a bronze neck ring, once worn by women in the Bronze Age.
Two of the mounds are particularly large, measuring 26 and 33 meters in diameter and standing 7 meters high. From the top, you can take in breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
Take a Break at Café Havestuen
Right next to Maglehøje, you’ll find the charming Café Havestuen, where you can enjoy freshly baked sourdough rolls, a great cup of coffee, or a glass of wine. The café focuses on organic and locally sourced ingredients.
Walking Route Among the Burial Mounds
A collaboration between Gribskov Municipality, local landowners, and Museum Nordsjælland has created a 1.3 km walking trail leading you through the burial mounds. Informative signs provide insight into the Bronze Age in both Danish and English. Picnic tables and benches make it a perfect family-friendly outing.
Note: Dogs are not allowed inside the fenced area due to grazing animals.
