On the peninsula of Hjortholm, which is partially flooded by the waters of the Limfjord, fascinating archaeological discoveries have been made. Among them is a shell midden containing mussel shells, indicating a Stone Age settlement from the Ertebølle culture around 4500 BC. These findings show that hunter-gatherers once lived here and made use of the area's rich natural resources.
The landscape around Hjortholm is diverse. On the western side of the bay, the water is very shallow, creating ideal conditions for birdlife and coastal meadows.
