Als, Als Odde & Helberskov, which make up the southeast coast of Himmerland, are a historical oasis and a great starting point for a cozy family vacation in peaceful surroundings - yet still easily accessible to the vibrant holiday life in Øster Hurup.

Als Odde is the southeasternmost point of Himmerland, where the Mariager Fjord meets the Kattegat Sea. At Als Odde, there is a harbor for small boats and fishing boats.

On the Odde, there is a small café that serves light café food as well as coffee and cake. Here, on warm summer days, you can sit and enjoy the view with a cup of coffee and ice cream.

In the forest between Als Odde and Helberskov, you'll find the restaurant Jægerhuset. A cozy half-timbered house with a thatched roof and charming rooms. They serve good Danish food with traditions. In the summer, there is also service in the lovely garden. The place is worth a visit for a cup of coffee on the terrace.

The villages of Odde and Helberskov are both examples of preserved village environments on Als Odde. There are many beautiful half-timbered farms and houses from the 18th and 19th centuries. Helberskov is a so-called cluster village, with the farms closely grouped around the village pond and the old assembly place.

Helberskov

Helberskov is located below the moraine hill Bjerget (24 m above sea level), from which there is a magnificent view. Therefore, during World War II, there was a German coastal battery here. At the capitulation on May 5, 1945, the commander of the place refused to surrender. He gathered all German troops in the area, about 300 men, on the hill and was prepared to fight to the last man. It was not until May 10, five days after the rest of Denmark, that the garrison on Bjerget surrendered as the last place in Denmark.

Als

The village of Als can trace its history back to the Stone Age when it was an island hill in the Litorina Sea. The highest point is Ravnbjerg (28 m above sea level), where archaeologists have found remains of houses that are 2000 years old. Als Church is a classic Romanesque church from the 14th century, majestically perched about 20 meters high overlooking the Kattegat Sea. The church has been used as a maritime landmark for centuries. The town is centered around the village square Flouen, the Springvandspladsen, and Als Kro and Badehotel (1893), which is still operated as an inn today.

The town has two cozy campsites, Als Havbakker and Als Camping, both just a few meters from the Kattegat Sea. Here, you can relax and take walks in the beautiful nature with forests and beaches. The sites are run by the Als Borgerforening and are open to everyone. They are the most affordable and picturesque in the region.
