Alma's House and Garden is open to visitors who need a break in a beautiful garden. Cyclists can use the bike parking area located further down the street. There is also a free repair and pump station. The house has a long history, and the three-winged half-timbered building is a gem in Ørbæk and a special example of Funen's architectural style, where most crofter's places were built as small, three-winged half-timbered farms.
The house is one of the last preserved crofter's places from the 18th century in the area. Generations of crofters have lived in the home under the nearby manor, Ørbæklunde.
The name "Alma's House" refers to one of the last owners of the house, Alma Hansen, later Christensen. She was born in 1903 - probably in the house itself. Alma grew up on the crofter's place with her parents and eight siblings and later inherited it with her husband Gustav. The family was self-sufficient then and had a fruit orchard, a vegetable garden, and animals. Through the story of Alma, the history of Ørbæk's development can be followed throughout the 20th century.
