The surname Würtz is likely familiar to many ceramic enthusiasts. Aage Würtz comes from a family of talented potters and has extensive experience in production and teaching that dates back to the 1970s. Together with the equally skilled Gitte Einshøj Würtz, he runs a shop and workshop in Graven, a side street off the central shopping street Søndergade in Horsens. In the shop, you can admire the beautiful ceramics, chat with the artists, and purchase unique art and functional art for your home. All of Würtz's ceramics are one-of-a-kind creations made entirely by hand using traditional pottery techniques. The collection includes functional art such as teapots, cups, vases, and bowls featuring stunning glazes and a beautiful interplay of colours.
The shop is open from Tuesday to Saturday every week.
Aage Würtz – Danish design of international caliber
Aage Würtz's passion for ceramics began in the 1970s when he started as an apprentice. He trained under his sister, Marie Würtz, who for many years owned the shop/workshop Pottemageren i Juelsminde. In the 1980s, he started his own business, but he was affected by a growing trend where people no longer wanted unique pottery, preferring instead white, uniform porcelain. Consequently, Aage Würtz chose to take a break from ceramics. However, in the 1990s, the tides changed, and he decided to establish the company KH Würtz together with his son, Kasper Würtz. The company gained considerable popularity and developed the tableware that has become a signature for Restaurant Noma. Today, Kasper owns KH Würtz, while Aage Würtz sells his own collections, available at select art dealers and in the shop in Graven, where the art is also created.
Learn to wheel-throw ceramics with Würtz
Gitte and Aage Würtz offer pottery wheel courses with individualized instruction from their workshop in Graven.
The courses are two-day sessions lasting six hours each day, with a maximum of three participants at a time. This structure ensures maximum learning for each participant, who can look forward to personalized instruction and support throughout the course.
There is an option for individual course customization if there are specific content requests.
