Thatched an low-ceilinged inn as in the old days

Hotel Hovborg Kro is world-famous, at least in Jutland, for its low-ceilinged taprooms and for its splendid Jutland food made as in the good old days with butter and cream in pots and pans of the kitchen. There has been an inn here for at least 250 years and the present thatched main building erected in 1790 has reverently been preserved from generation to generation. Without damaging the old atmosphere the owners have succeeded in building in modern facilities valued by today s guests. Thus the old cowshed and the barn have been turned into modern and untraditional conference rooms.

Hotel Hovborg Kro is situated in a beautiful area with approximately 8,000 acres of wood. This naturally invites to fine walks in the wood or along the nature trail following the stream Holme Å along the old "Studedrivervej". Here you can walk for hours without meeting one single person. There are good fishing possibilities in Holme Å, which runs through the huge garden of the inn. Moreover, the inn is situated in an area in which there are no less than 16 golf courses. Therefore, it is natural to spend a golf holiday in Hotel Hovborg Kro.

Nice area close to several sights

The atmosphere in the inn is friendly and relaxed, and in the inn they spend a lot of care on genuineness and originality. The hosts Johanne and Jørgen Jørgensen have been here since 1985, and occasionally the innkeeper can be persuaded to tell about the history of the inn and about some of his renowned predecessors in the inn. For example, about Johan Christoffer Steinmeier Sørensen who in the years 1835-1862 started planting in and around Hovborg. On his land, the first trees were planted in Hovborg in 1857, and in 1866 trees were planted in the wasteland, which marked the start of the Hovborg Plantation Company - the first plantation registered in the Danish Hedeselskab. You can also hear about Nicolaj Poulsen, who began reclaiming the moors, built a watermill and started a private dairy next to the inn, or about the Nikolajsen dynasty, owning the inn for decades.

Hotel Hovborg Kro has 51 rooms with bath, toilet and TV. It offers angling stays, weekend stays with carvery table, music and dancing, as well as golf holidays. Moreover, the inn arranges wine tasting arrangements for groups of at least 10 persons. The inn is situated close to the airport Billund Lufthavn, LEGOLAND®, LEGO® House and Givskud Zoo. Free parking and as a guest you can charge your electric car during your stay here completely free of charge.
