Stays and sleepovers atHotel Amerika

In the beautiful forest near Mariager Fjord

The small gravel paths run through the wood right down to Mariager Fjord, which, in many peoples opinion, is simply Denmark s most beautiful fjord. The wood is called Østerskov, and here in this beautiful area the new Hotel Amerika is situated. You may find it mysterious to come across Amerika here on the outskirts of Hobro, but the explanation is that, approx. 100 years ago, a man returned to Hobro after having lived in America for a number of years. He had earned a sum of money over there and he built some houses at Østerskov. Therefore, when people visited him here, they always said that they were going to Amerika.

The hotel owner has put a lot of work and shown great care for details in the tasteful furnishing of the hotel. It was crucial to find exactly the right materials, and, therefore, the curtains for example had to be bought as far away as in Italy. Outdoors, nature has been so generous to provide beautiful surroundings. You will experience this when visiting the restaurant, because from here you can enjoy the view over the wood in its many green nuances.

The hotel's fine dining restaurant, Restaurant Uafhængig is inspired by its surroundings, beautifully furnished and with delightful forest views. In 2017 it was announced the restaurant was to be included in Spiseguiden, the respected Danish restaurant guide.

You will be served an extraordinary, authentic culinary experience created from the best seasonal ingredients and utilising the local flora. The restaurant serves both lunch and evening meals.

Hotel Amerika is a 4-star hotel, with first class amenities and exceptional service. The hotel has 68 rooms including 2 suites, a bridal suite and an apartment. All rooms have private en-suite facilities, free WiFi and a TV.

There are many good reasons to plan a break at Hotel Amerika. Not only is the setting wonderful, the hotel staff endeavour to create exceptional experiences for all guests.

Nestled in the woods beside the banks of the fjord, the location is perfect for walks in the forest or along the shore to the nearby town of Hobro. During the summer, it’s possible to cruise on the "paddle steamer" Svanen as it sails along the fjord and there are 3 magnificent golf courses within a short drive.

    Kongehøjen at Voldstedlund

    5.19 km

”Kongehøjen” is one of the most beautiful and well-preserved Stone Age graves we have in Denmark, which makes it worthy of its name.

Excavations in 1961, and the following restoration of the long dolmens, showed it was built in the middle of the New Stone Age, approx. 3.200 B.C. So it was erected long before Denmark became a real kingdom, which was during the Viking Period. The most interesting aspect of the long dolmen, is the almost undamaged stone chain (1) with a total of 62 stones along the foot of the mound, as well as the two very well-preserved tombs, which is hidden in the mound. A reason for the unique condition of the dolmen could be that it was listed already in 1892, and perhaps also because the stories say that it would bode ill for those who broke the stone chain or disturbed the area in any way,

    Mariager centrum

    9.06 km

Mariager, also known as the City of Roses, is an idyllic town with cobblestone streets and old half-timbered houses adorned with roses. The town has a rare urban environment in Denmark. Everything unfolds at a relaxed pace through the old cozy streets. There are no facades; everything is preserved in its original style and still in use.

Mariager is also one of Denmark's smallest market towns. Until the beginning of the 15th century, Mariager was just a small fishing village and ferry stop on the road between Randers and Aalborg. The establishment of the Birgittine Monastery around 1446 led to a tremendous growth in trade and craftsmanship, and in 1592, Mariager was granted market town rights.

On the charming square, you will find the atmospheric Hotel Postgården, whose oldest building dates back to the 18th century. When strolling around the square on a lovely summer day, you can almost always enjoy the scent of freshly baked waffles from Vaffelbageren. If you desire a delicious ice cream served in freshly baked waffles, this is worth a visit.

The town's and region's history is also told at the Mariager Museum and can be experienced firsthand in the impressive Monastery Church. Visit the Klosterhaven (Monastery Garden) across from the church or the brand-new Rosenhave (Rose Garden) with hundreds of different types of roses, right next to the old Munkholm facility, which also features a lovely nature playground.

In relation to its size, Mariager is well-equipped with specialty and grocery stores, fine dining establishments, cafes, and good accommodation options, as well as numerous attractions and sights worth exploring.
