”Kongehøjen” is one of the most beautiful and well-preserved Stone Age graves we have in Denmark, which makes it worthy of its name.
Excavations in 1961, and the following restoration of the long dolmens, showed it was built in the middle of the New Stone Age, approx. 3.200 B.C. So it was erected long before Denmark became a real kingdom, which was during the Viking Period. The most interesting aspect of the long dolmen, is the almost undamaged stone chain (1) with a total of 62 stones along the foot of the mound, as well as the two very well-preserved tombs, which is hidden in the mound. A reason for the unique condition of the dolmen could be that it was listed already in 1892, and perhaps also because the stories say that it would bode ill for those who broke the stone chain or disturbed the area in any way,

Mariager, also known as the City of Roses, is an idyllic town with cobblestone streets and old half-timbered houses adorned with roses. The town has a rare urban environment in Denmark. Everything unfolds at a relaxed pace through the old cozy streets. There are no facades; everything is preserved in its original style and still in use.
Mariager is also one of Denmark's smallest market towns. Until the beginning of the 15th century, Mariager was just a small fishing village and ferry stop on the road between Randers and Aalborg. The establishment of the Birgittine Monastery around 1446 led to a tremendous growth in trade and craftsmanship, and in 1592, Mariager was granted market town rights.
On the charming square, you will find the atmospheric Hotel Postgården, whose oldest building dates back to the 18th century. When strolling around the square on a lovely summer day, you can almost always enjoy the scent of freshly baked waffles from Vaffelbageren. If you desire a delicious ice cream served in freshly baked waffles, this is worth a visit.
The town's and region's history is also told at the Mariager Museum and can be experienced firsthand in the impressive Monastery Church. Visit the Klosterhaven (Monastery Garden) across from the church or the brand-new Rosenhave (Rose Garden) with hundreds of different types of roses, right next to the old Munkholm facility, which also features a lovely nature playground.
In relation to its size, Mariager is well-equipped with specialty and grocery stores, fine dining establishments, cafes, and good accommodation options, as well as numerous attractions and sights worth exploring.

Within the park, there is an observation platform with picnic tables and grilling facilities, which is adjacent to Arden Nature Playground and Arden Nature Campsite. Both of these offer a fire pit, accessible toilet, playground equipment, activity areas, trails, and shelters.
Nearby, you'll also find a rhododendron park and an activity park.

The history of Rebild Bakker National Park
In 1911 the area was bought by a group of Americans with Danish descent. The area was given to the Danish government in 1912, with the stipulation that a celebration must be held every year on the 4th of July, celebrating the friendship between Denmark and the US. The non-profit organization Rebild National Park Society inc., was founded to manage and direct the 4th of July celebrations in Rebild Bakker. The celebration has been held every year ever since 1912, except during the First World War and Second World War. You can read more about the 4th of July Celebrations which take place in the hills.
At the entrance to Rebild Bakker, on the right-hand side you will find the “Friendship Lawn” with a sculpture and several busts. The name of the sculpture is “The Emigrant” or in Danish “Christina’s Familie’’ and represents a family that emigrated to the USA. The sculpture was unveiled on 4th of July 2000.

In the tropical climate of the rainforest with lianas, big waterfalls, amazing plants, and lots of free-ranging animals, you are sure to feel transported to a world that you usually have to fly for hours to see.
The air is hot and humid and filled with the noises of the rich wildlife in the domes. In the treetops above your head, monkeys are jumping around playing, while the bats and sloths are getting a rest. On the forest floor, leafcutter ants are working tirelessly to carry heavy leaf bits down to their ant-hill while the manatees swim quietly around the water, and the Komodo dragons are lazing in a sunny spot.
See the opening hours for the Rainforest right here.
Are you crazy about snakes, too? If so, you should visit the snake temple and walk around among real, live boa constrictors.
TIDSREJSEN will take you on a journey through the landscape from the birth of the country and up until today! See the hyena plain and the Neanderthal camp dating back to distant times before the latest Ice Age and play around in the mammoth trees and the elephant cemeteries. Pet the animals at the Stone Age village and stand face-to-face with a European lynx by the dolmen. Walk along a scenic path to moor used for offerings dating back to the Iron Age and enjoy a refreshment at the farm playground.
The luxuriant, South American rainforest is home to a cat so big that only the tiger and the lion exceed it in size. Its jaws are so powerful that it is able to crush the skull of even large mammals and easily bite through the shell of a land turtle and other armoured reptiles.
In Randers Regnskov Tropical Zoo, you get to come close to these beautiful felines in the jaguar enclosure. They even have their very own pool, so come and see for yourself, when they frolic in the water. Find out more about the jaguars.
