Trail of Ancient Times - Sir Lyngbjerg Plantage
Take a walk in the past
The landscape in Sir Lyngbjerg consists mainly of clay, sand and gravel which have been pushed up by the ice and have formed a ridge moraine. In Sir Lyngbjerg Plantage you can see the remains of the edge moraine, with steep hills and deep gorges. Read more about the influence of the ice age on the landscape at Geopark West Jutland's website.
Several places in Denmark established shooting associations after the loss of Southern Jutland. The establishment of a shooting association in the area became the beginning of great popular activity. For example, lectures were arranged, and the activities developed into outdoor idol services, folk festivals and large public meetings with several thousand participants focusing on democracy and freedom of expression.
In 1879, a planting company was established, which paid for the planting of the area's 20 hectares. The plantation purpose today is to be an attractive natural area, with party space and lighting facilities for everyone.
A number of monuments have been erected on prominent persons and significant historical events, which you can experience on a walk along the many good trails with signage that tell of nature and history.
