Torskilstrup Stubmølle stands as a monument to grain production on Falster. The mill has withstood wind and weather for almost 400 years and is located at the end of a nice little path if you need to stretch your legs.
Torkilstrup Mill is a stump mill, characterised by its low height and a wide base that rests directly on the ground or a low plinth. The name "stump mill" comes from the fact that the mill appears to stand like a stump in the landscape.
Stump mills were typically built in areas where wind resources were moderate and where the mill was primarily used to grind grain for flour production. Due to their lower height, stub mills were more robust and easier to maintain than taller wind turbine types.
Historically, stump mills came before the more efficient Dutch mills, and with its impressive wooden structures dating back to around 1650, this old mill is more than just a historical landmark - it's a living symbol of the milling and farming life of the past.
The mill is only open on certain days of the year, but can be admired from the outside in all seasons.
