HumbleMejeri

I 1890 opførste 102 andelshavere med 700 køer Humble Mejeri, som i folkemunde blev kaldt ”Smørslottet” grundet bygningens oprindelige facade. I 1932 blev facaden ombygget til nuværende.
Ejendommen til venstre for mejeriet i 40B fungerede som bolig for mejeribestyreren.

I 1979 fusionerede mejeriet med Bøstrup Andelsmejeri, som i 1983 meldte sig ind i Mejeriselskabet Danmark (senere MD Foods, i dag Arla). I 1984 lukkede mejeriet i Humble, mens mejeriet i Bøstrup fortsatte frem til 1990, som det sidste mejeri på Langeland.

Efter mejeriet lukkede i 1984 blev bygningen omdannet til vaskeri (med fortsat salg af den berømte Humble Ost). I dag anvendes bygningen som lager.

Humble Ost

Mejeriet var anerkendt for den særlige Humble Ost fremkaldt af bakteriefloraen på mejeriet og brug af dobbelt tilsætning af løbe.
I dag produceres osten på Fyn, men stadig efter den over 100 år gamle opskrift. Osten kan købes i Ostehuset Rudkøbing.
