Marselisborg Deer Park

Marselisborg Deer Park stretches over 22 hectares in the heart of the magnificent Marselisborg Forest. Here you can enjoy peaceful walks on well-maintained paths, surrounded by impressive old trees, beautiful lakes and a charming hilly landscape.

Take a moment to admire the breathtaking views of Skambækken, Varna Dam and Aarhus Bay, where you can see all the way across to Mols. The Skambækken stream winds through the lush forest, past the three historic mill ponds - Pouls Dam, Thorsmølledam and Varna Dam - creating an idyllic setting for your nature experience.

The animals must not be fed

The animals in the Deer Park live like wild animals and are not allowed to be fed. On weekday mornings, the Zoo's staff will feed them with supplementary food and they will flock around the troughs. Be aware that the animals can react quickly and flee if there is a disturbance during feeding, so always keep a safe distance and watch them from a distance. The experience is nothing short of magical when you see deer and fallow deer in their natural element.

The wild boars have their own fenced area where you can safely follow them from a distance.

Eat your packed lunch close to the zoo

When you visit the zoo, you can easily find space for a cosy lunch break outside the park. In the nearby forests, which are full of great hiking and play opportunities, you'll find a covered area called Ørnereden, where you can sit down with your packed lunch.

Show consideration for nature and animals

To protect the animals and their environment, it's important that you don't feed them, bring dogs, cycle, jog or collect chestnuts and acorns - they are part of the animals' diet. On the other hand, you can take great photos, film or even go sledding and skiing when the snow falls.

Precautions:

  • Do not visit during stormy weather due to the risk of falling branches.
  • Remember that feeding the animals is not allowed, as feeding makes the animals approachable and a danger to
    visitors.
  • Wild boars must not be fed for veterinary reasons.
  • Do not chase the animals or seek them out. Instead, let the animals come to you if they want to and always stay on the edge of the herds.
  • Don't collect alders and chestnuts in the Deer Park - they are part of the animals' food.
  • Don't hang pacifiers in the trees and don't leave rubbish behind - it can mean death for the animals.

Water, toilet and disabled toilet

In the eastern part of the Deer Park, you'll find Krudthuset, where water, toilets, and disabled toilets are available for free use for park guests. The facilities are open all year round, so you are always welcome to use them during your visit.

The Deer Park is open from sunrise to sunset and is located in Thorskoven, part of the Marselisborg Forests and is easily accessible and there is plenty of parking close by.
