However, the history of the parish and the church goes back further, as the foundation stones show. The first foundation stone in the church crypt is a granite block from Randers' oldest church, the first St. Clemens Church, which was demolished in 1540. The second foundation stone is a monk stone from St. Mortens Church, and the third foundation stone is a brick from St. Peders Church, which are the two parishes from which the new St. Clemens parish was separated.
Location of the church
The church's location on a south-facing slope overlooking the Gudenå Valley has been utilised in an unusual way, with the choir section of the church and its large windows facing south. From the church entrance to the north, the building complex does not look like much, but seen from the south, the building's three floors jut out into Vestparken like the bow of a ship. The church interior is pentagonal, so that the chancel with its 17 pillars and floor-to-ceiling windows ends in a point. The building material is yellow brick both inside and out, and the woodwork is pine.
