St. Catharinæ Church and Abbey in Ribe
Take a walk in the past
St Catherine’s Church and Priory is one of the oldest and best-preserved monastic buildings in Scandinavia. A visit to the priory and the church is a special experience, guaranteed to soothe the mind. During the Reformation in 1536, a total of 14 Catholic churches, monastic buildings and chapels were demolished in Ribe and their property appropriated by the king. Only St. Catherine’s church and the Cathedral escaped demolition, the priory became the town’s first public hospital.
Access to church and yard only when services are not in progress.
