Small mounds in Stengade Forrest

100 meters from Stengade Beach, just behind the wide beech that Oehlenschläger has allegedly been inspired to write the Danish National Anthem "Der er et yndigt land", lies in the forest edge four small mounds.

They are all approx. half a meter high and seven meters in diameter and is believed to be from the end of the Bronze Age or the beginning of the Iron Age, ie from around 500 BC.

They are far from as impressive as the famous Bronze Age mounds you can see, for example, at Tryggelev, nevertheless they are protected ancient monuments and part of the historical landscape, where the past is visible in the present. Unfortunately, the four mounds in Stengade Skov are planted and not signposted in any way.
