The age of Sdr. Årslev Church is not known with certainty, but the foundation stone was probably laid at the end of the 12th century on the site where a wooden church had stood for some time. On the north side of the present church, clear traces of the length and height of the first stone church can still be seen, but in the late Middle Ages, the church was significantly expanded.
The west extension and the increase in the height of the nave in connection with the cross vaulting and the porch were added in the late Gothic period.
