Over time, Ikast-Brande Municipality has installed a large number of works by Bjørn Nørgaard. The most recent is the sculpture Tear Down This Temple, which stands in front of Ikast Church. The sculpture was unveiled in November 2012 and sparked significant debate in the area, particularly due to its title Tear Down This Temple.
The work is highly dramatic and filled with biblical stories and messages.
Walk through the sculpture’s gate and move from the rational, modern space of the city into the religious, traditional, and ecclesiastical realm.
Bjørn Nørgaard himself says the following about the meaning of the sculpture:
“A society’s most important capital is the people who live in it, and the creative abilities, ideas, and skills they possess. Dead capital—money—however necessary it may be, can do little if society cannot unleash and provide opportunities for each citizen’s vision, creativity, and desire to contribute. It is this living capital that is essential and creates a more beautiful and dynamic society.”
