Løgismose – A Symbol of the Good Life
Between Faaborg and Assens lies the Løgismose estate, whose history dates back to the 14th century. Since 1965, Løgismose has been owned by the Grønlykke family, who founded the company Løgismose, known for producing and selling wine, food, and delicacies – products you may recognize from Netto’s assortment.
From the Middle Ages to the Atomic Age, various owners struggled against the winds of change at Løgismose – so much so that it is described as a miracle that the estate survived. In 1624, Marshal of the Realm Anders Bille inherited the estate. He consolidated the land, enhanced the main building with a southeast wing and a spire-topped tower, and gave Løgismose its distinctive Renaissance character. Today, the manor house is a three-winged, two-story building with red tile roofs and red limewashed walls, surrounded on all four sides by moats.
When the era of serfdom ended and the nobility had to manage without tenant land and free labor, many saw it as the beginning of the end. For Løgismose, it was indeed a turbulent time. Over the next hundred years, the estate changed hands 12–13 times. Stability returned only when manufacturer Hans Slot Steensen took over in 1915. The age of noblemen, marshals, and counts was over, and a new era began – the age of industrialists and new money. This became clear when, in 1953, Løgismose was bought by an American builder who wanted to host his daughter’s wedding at a castle.
Today, Løgismose stands as a symbol of the good life, especially when it comes to the pleasures of the table. The founders of this legacy were Lene and Sven Grønlykke, pioneers of Danish gastronomy, known for their influence on Falsled Kro and for creating Summerbird Chocolate.
