Bagenkop Havn

Havnen er anlagt i 1500-tallet som et lille fiskerleje på en landtange, hvorfra byens fiskere benyttede strandsøen til fiskeri.

I 1853 blev Magleby Nor inddæmmet og fjordfiskeriet sluttede. I 1858 kunne fiskerne tage en ny havn i brug ved den sydlige udmunding af Magleby Nor. Byens fiskere brugte oprindelig strandsøen både til fiskeri og som havn. Da Magleby Nor blev inddæmmet i 1853, var det slut med fjordfiskeriet. Til gengæld kunne fiskerne tage en ny havn i brug i 1858.

I 1964 var havnen, efter flere udvidelser, Danmarks sjettestørste fiskerihavn. I dag er fiskekutterne blevet færre, men Bagenkop er fortsat Langelands største fiskerihavn. Besøg også Rasmus Klumps skib ”Mary”, hvor man kan fiske efter krabber.

 

Det gamle færgeleje

Fiskelejret åbnede i 1911 da Sydfynske Dampskibsselskab indsatte damperen ”Rut” i rute til Kiel. Den nye færgehavn stod færdig i 1965, og året efter åbnede det tredje store havnebassin. Færgen var en stor succes takket være det toldfrie salg ombord. I 1983 benyttede 441.949 passagerer ruten.
1. juli 1999 stoppede det toldfrie salg mellem EU-landende, hvilket medførte at den sidste færge til Kiel sejlede i 2002. I dag benyttes færgelejet til vandaktiviteter og stedet vil danne rammen om SHORES Langelands store anlægsprojekt “Springet”. På molen syd for færgelejet er udkigstårn og kunsthal.
