Hjortdal Kirke

Take a walk in the past

The church was built in the Middle Ages

In a region struck by sand drift, and which, over the latest century, has been bound by marram grass and plantations, the Church at Hjortdal is situated - solitarily and almost hidden in plantations with spruce and pines.

The impressive building consists of Romanesque choir and nave with a very low late Gothic tower towards west and a porch from 1586 towards north. The Romanesque building, choir and nave have been plotted very carefully and built of granite ashlars on a diagonal plinth partly covered by earth and some places faintly hollowed.
