Gimsinghoved Art and Culture Center – Struer
Gimsinghoved is an independent institution in Struer, where the main activity is rotating art exhibitions. Additionally, the venue, with its beautiful Steinway grand piano, provides a perfect setting for classical concerts and jazz performances, of which approximately 10 are organized each year.
Exhibitions and activities take place in the atmospheric rooms on the ground floor, where the artwork on the walls enhances concerts and other events, creating a complete experience.
The exhibition at Gimsinghoved is managed by staff and a team of volunteers who act as docents on weekends and public holidays. These volunteers help take care of the exhibition and assist visitors to the venue.
The Garden:
The beautiful garden at Gimsinghoved is always worth a visit. Here, you will find an impressive collection of sculptures. A brochure about the sculptures in the garden is available inside Gimsinghoved.
During the summer, outdoor concerts and various events are also held in the garden. The magnificent garden is maintained by a team of volunteers who care for it every Wednesday during the gardening season.
Inside Gimsinghoved, visitors can purchase schnapps and marmalade, made partly from ingredients grown in the garden.
Café:
In our cozy café, you can enjoy coffee, tea, and cocoa, as well as homemade cake and rolls with cheese and marmalade. If you're in need of a refreshing drink, you can enjoy a cold beer, a soft drink, or a fine glass of wine.
Outdoor service is available in our lovely garden when the weather permits.
A bit of history:
The beautiful manor house, Gimsinghoved, has an interesting history dating back more than 500 years. Until the early 20th century, the buildings retained their farmhouse character. However, after a fire in 1916, the current grand main building was constructed. The architect was Chief Railway Engineer Kornerup from Struer, who was also responsible for other architectural gems in the city.
In 1925, Ivar Lundgaard, also known as "the uncrowned king of Danish cattle trading," took over Gimsinghoved. He passed away in 1969, and in 1986, Struer Municipality acquired Gimsinghoved. The large farm buildings were sold to the housing association Lejerbo, which converted them into apartments.
In 1989, the main building was transformed into the vibrant art and culture center we know today. The impressive courtyard was preserved, and the apartments and cultural center were linked together by Karl Åge Riget’s sculpture Samspil, which Lejerbo installed on the site in 1990.
