Gallery MOMLIS - Old Japanese technique with a Nordic twist

Gallery MOMLIS is located in a historic net house in the middle of Bagenkop's charming fishing community, close to the marina and family-friendly experiences such as Rasmus Klump, Fiskeriets Hus and the wild horses. Here, artist Linea Hansen creates original prints of locally caught fish, inspired by a centuries-old Japanese printing technique, Gyotaku.

Japanese tradition meets Nordic interpretation

Gyotaku originated as a way for Japanese fishermen to document their catches by taking direct impressions of the fish. Linea Hansen has given this technique a Nordic twist and created a unique art form that both honours tradition and renews it with modern aesthetics.

Love and care for the sea

The prints are made on handmade papers and with exclusive materials such as sumiink. Using a special technique, the fish are transferred directly onto the paper, creating an authentic expression that shows the exact species from the waters south of Langeland. The motifs convey an immediate love and care for the sea and its creatures, and each work tells a story about marine life.

The artist behind MOMLIS

Linea Hansen grew up on Langeland and has lived most of her life in the fishing village of Bagenkop, where she lives with her fisherman husband. She is a self-taught visual artist and trained teacher. The inspiration to work with Gyotaku arose during research for art classes, and she has since developed her own artistic style, interpreting the ancient technique with a Scandinavian sensibility.
