INTERMEZZO is a celebration of art, respect, and coexistence across and in spite of the conflicted waters of the Baltic Sea. With new and existing work from the whole region 44Møen will be the centre of an artistic dialogue, that was prevented in Riga in 2022.
Under the heading “Exercises in Respect” the German curator René Block had invited 60 artists to exhibit in the old industrial harbour Andrejsala, celebrating longstanding connections coming to artistic fruition. Due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, RIBOCA3 was postponed, and now opens in another format in 44Møen and in Riga.
INTERMEZZO spans indoor and outdoor facilities at 44Møen. In the new KlangHall you will find Evelīna Deičmane’s massive sound sculpture, and on the open field behind 44Møen you will new work by Bjørn Nørgaard and Latvian Evita Vasiljeva. Do take time to sit down and enjoy the atmosphere where village borders open land and art borders nature.
With the new facilities 44Møen will welcome more artistic productions: With Studio 44Møen and Residency 44Møen, a long building of 4 independent apartments, 44Møen will offer residencies open studios etc. Studio 44Møen is also the home of The Laboratory for Art and Nature, offering courses and workshops.
In PS44, 44Møen's project space for young art, the Palestinian-born visual artist, filmmaker, writer and hypnotist Samara Sallam exhibits. Her project for PS44 will revolve around place, movement and change, inviting the audience to interact with the raw space of the forge.
Since its foundation in 2008, 44Møen has been presenting an ambitious exhibition program featuring both emerging and well-established artists from Denmark and abroad.
The program reflects its founders' legacies such as FLUXUS, the Copenhagen School of Painting ('Ex-Skolen') happenings and experimental music, and is supplemented by a rich public program including talks, performances, concerts, and educational activities.
