World-renowned BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group has designed FLUGT based on the history of the area. In the refugee camp's hospital, which originally consisted of 40 small hospital and operating theatres, the architects have created a brand new museum with eight large exhibition rooms. A beautiful, curved extension ties the original wings together into one whole.
Oksbøl Camp - the largest refugee camp in Danish history
At the end of World War II, more than 250,000 German civilians arrived in occupied Denmark after a dramatic and violent escape. In the final months of the war, the Red Army's assault on Nazi Germany took a heavy toll on the civilian population, displacing millions of Germans from their homes. The largest refugee camp in Danish history, Oksbøl Camp, was built in 1945 and housed 35,000 refugees at its largest. It is in this area that the museum is now located. And it is here, both inside the museum and out in the plantation, that you will experience what life was like in the Oksbøl camp.
Refugees at all times
Refugee flows are not just a historical phenomenon. These years, the world is experiencing the largest refugee flows ever. War and persecution are driving people to flee for survival, safety and new homes. It is a topic that is omnipresent, which is why it is not only refugees of the past that you will meet in FLUGT. In the exhibition REFUGEES OF ALL TIMES, you will meet the refugees who have come to Denmark in recent times from Russia, Germany, Hungary, Vietnam, Chile, Lebanon, Iran, Bosnia, Syria, Afghanistan and most recently Ukraine.
Audio walk in the former refugee camp
Outside the museum, you can hike along the camp's original paths and roads with a guide in your ears. In the plantation, you will experience life in the camp as it was in 1946. Among other things, you will be welcomed inside Teather Oxbøl and meet some of the camp's residents. Afterwards, you can continue your walk to the Refugee Cemetery next to the museum, where up to 1800 Germans are buried. The cemetery is visited by up to 20,000 descendants every year.

The area, which today is a nature park for Esbjerg and Varde, is very valuable in landscape terms and distinctive. The varied terrain provides good opportunities for various forms of outdoor life. The area is also part of the Wadden Sea National Park.
Marbækgård with restaurant is located north of the artificially landscaped lake area and bird sanctuary. The lakes were built in the years 1972-79 and make up 20 ha. South of the lake area is "Spejderøen" with cabins, and by Sjelborg beach is restaurant Rødhætte. Paths for walking, cycling and riding: The paths are a network of field and forest roads.
Archeology
In Marbæk Plantage there are field differences from the older Iron Age. And in the middle of the plantation, east of the road between Sjelborg and Myrthue, an area has been cleared where these field boundaries can be seen. Remains of houses from the Iron Age are also found at Myrthue and on the outskirts of Sjelborg plantation. In Myrthue, three plots of house have been preserved, where the houses' fireplaces and paved stables can still be seen. Between the houses there are paved paths.

The nature in Hjerting Beach Park varies a lot - beach, tidal meadow, moor, heath and wood. In the park you will find special wooden benches from which you can enjoy the beautiful view of the sea.
Also in the evening it is worth visiting the park with the winding path leading from Sanatorievej to the sea illuminated by luminous balls.
In the park there is a sculpture by the Portuguese artist Rui Chafes.

Varde Miniby is a miniature version of Varde town as it looked around the year 1860. The town is built in the size ratio 1:10, and every single building is listed as a faithful copy of the original. Despite the fact that Varde is an old town, it is a minimal part of the original buildings that still stand today, as the Vardens have historically had bad experiences with fire. In the city, there are more than 300 buildings in the small putt version, all built by the so-called mini-masons. These mini-masons are made up of 12 retired, skilled and dexterous men who meet year-round to build the small, millimeter-accurate replicas of the old buildings. The buildings are compiled with home-cast roofs and bricks, window sections, trusses and downspouts.

The Last Mammoth – The First Human (through August 2023)
Meet the ice age girl Ayla and follow her to the vast, windswept grass tundra where the last woolly giants lived. You will also meet nature enthusiast Jonas, known from the popular Danish YouTube channel @Naturnørd, and archeology enthusiast Line, who shows unique finds from the end of the ice age. The exhibition is particularly suitable for children aged 5-12.
West Coast Stories
Embark on a time-travel that starts with the mammoths on the vast plain, where now is the North Sea. The journey continues to early Blåvand with warlocks and smugglers, on to the heroes of the sea, and right up to the flourishing camping life of the 1970s.
Gold of the West Coast
Contemplate the treasure trove which holds one of the finest amber collections in Europe. Also meet the amber hunter who might reveal how you can find amber yourself. Discover the many properties of amber in the amber forest and get to know the difference between amber and just yellow rocks.
Army of Concrete
World War II was not just about concrete and cannons but first and foremost a world tragedy that struck ordinary people – also on the Danish west coast. Meet some of these people and learn of their fates in the exhibition, which is built like a bunker landscape.
The Tirpitz Bunker
The old bunker lies as a testimony to the widespread consequences of World War II. Like a huge concrete block full of secrets, it calls for you to explore in the narrow aisles. Here too, a wealth of great stories lies hidden.

Strand-Galleriet is located in the scenic Vejers Strand, and is only 150 meters from the North Sea.
Here you will find the white gallery which is owned by the couple Lone and Anders Møller. Their vision is to create and expand valuable relationships for the benefit of the artist and customers.

Blåvandshuk Lighthouse is probably the most eye-catching building in Blåvand with its 39 metre high lighthouse, which with its own rugged charm marks Denmark's westernmost point, Blåvands Huk. From the top, there is a marvellous view of Horns Rev and the world's largest offshore wind farm.
The lighthouse was built in 1900 to replace the old angle lighthouse from 1888. Thanks to its location on a high dune, the height of the light source above sea level is 55 metres. The light source itself is quite modest, consisting of a 1000 watt 220 volt electric light bulb. The amazingly bright beam of light, which can be seen 50-60 kilometres out to sea, is produced by a rotating lens device that also uses shielding to produce the beacon character, 3 flashes every 20 seconds.

The Wadden Sea stretches across 500 km and three countries. UNESCO has recently designated the Danish part of the Wadden Sea as World Heritage Destination. The German/Dutch part was already declared a World Heritage Destination in 2009.
The tides makes a huge impression when twice a day 1,000,000,000 m3 of water is moved back and forth through the depths. The Wadden Sea is the flawless quiet water, and simultaneously the turbulent ocean on the outside of the dike. The Wadden Sea is full of life - in the air, in the low water, above and below the marshes surface. No other place in Denmark is it possible to encounter so many migrating birds, spring as well as autumn - a total of 10-12 million. During hatching season, do mind your feet, as the bird nests occur in the strangest of places. The Island Mandø situated southwest of Ribe will at this time of year give some remarkable insights into the wild life.
The warm and low waters of the Wadden sea is at the same time the natural breeding area for many of our most important fish species, and here our summer visitors - the mullet - congregates in great numbers. The Wadden Sea is today the home of the largest population of the common seal Denmark.
