Frilandsmuseet / Open Air Museum

Take a walk in the past

Only 30 minutes from central Copenhagen you can enter a different world: the countryside of old Denmark. Imagine yourself transported back in time, strolling along the gravel roads, historic gardens and visiting the fully-furnished homes of the people of the past.

In the summer holiday there are lots of family activities inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytales.

Try the fairytale-trail, watch short plays, go on a self-guided tour about the author’s childhood and interact with the Princess on the Pea Pod, Clumsy Hans or the ugly duckling.

Accessibility at Frilandsmuseet/The Open Air Museum:

The road at Frilandsmuseet/The Open Air Museum are gravel but stable. It may be difficult to get around for wheelchair users, as the terrain is hilly, but it is possible. However, it is difficult to get into courtyards and into the museum buildings with wheelchair. You can borrow a wheelchair at the museum (the wheelchairs are not motorized). Visit their website to get more information regarding this. There is handicap parking at both entrances.
