On the Eshøj Plateau, which covers an area of 4 km2, there was originally a large cemetery from the Bronze and Iron Ages, comprising more than 40 burial mounds. Some of them are still visible but heavily plowed. Borum Eshøj was excavated in 1875 and contained three oak coffin graves with exceptionally well-preserved bodies of two men and one woman, which are now exhibited at the Moesgaard Museum.
