Newly renovated and modern hotel in North Zealand
Skjalm Hvide was a North Zealand nobleman who had large landed properties on several locations in North Zealand way back in Svend Estridsens time around 1100. He was the founder of the strong Hvide family, which included powerful men such as Asser Rig, Esbern Snare and Absalon. Jørlunde Kirke is one of the oldest churches on Zealand and it was built at Skjalm Hvide s orders.
The family-run Skjalm Hvide Hotel is situated in the village street in Jørlunde a stone throw from the church, and naturally the name refers to the builder of the church. The family Willadsen bought the hotel in 1981, and since then they have extended the hotel with even more rooms and a restaurant. In 1994 the hotel acquired the castle, which is a patrician villa from 1991 right beside the hotel, and it was converted into banqueting and conference rooms, a bridal suite and a tower room on the first floor.
