Schackenborg Slotskro is situated in the idyllic village of Møgeltønder with the cobble-stoned castle street, which is one of Denmark’s most beautiful main streets. Møgeltønder is one of the oldest villages in the country and is, therefore, a very original part of Denmark. On a stroll there are many possibilities of enjoying the old and outstanding preserved houses of the castle street. They are filled with lots of details. With a few exceptions all the houses are several hundred years old, and most of them are currently renovated.

The beautiful Schackenborg Slotskro has 25 individually furnished rooms, named after Danish castles and manors. Some of the rooms are situated in three adjacent, preserved buildings, which have been beautifully renovated.

On the exciting menu card of the inn you will find e.g. both French country rabbit and pigeon, and for lunch you can for instance enjoy the potato sandwich of the castle inn, served with a smile on Schackenborg rye bread.

Schackenborg Castle as its nearest neighbor

Møgeltønder is situated in the wide-stretched march lands at the Wadden Sea, and the small village with 900 inhabitants is like a fairy tale. Here the ducks wander in the streets in daytime, and in the evening the old street lamps throw their soft light on the thatched houses and farms.

The nearest neighbour of Schackenborg Slotskro is Schackenborg Castle. The history of the castle goes back to the 1200s, when it belonged to the bishop in Ribe. The inn has been royally licensed since 1687. From 1995 until 2014, the castle formed the setting of Queen Margrethe’s youngest son’s daily work as a farmer together with Princess Marie and their children.

The 25 rooms of the inn are individually furnished with due respect for the original style, and they are named after Danish castles and manors. The rooms, of which most have a bathtub, are situated in the inn itself and three adjacent preserved houses with glazing bars and a private garden. The inn has a number of special offers, for instance golf stays, gourmet days, stays with Sort Sol (Black Sun) and Royal, which includes champagne and a 10-course surprise menu. The inn is situated in the Wadden Sea National Park, where you can for instance experience Sort Sol with tens of thousands of starlings in fantastic formations.
