Scenic surroundings close to Odense
Danish Kro’s originated over 700 years ago when the King decreed that small hotels, or inns, were to be established to accommodate him and his entourage as he traveled around the country to collect taxes. For Frederik VI's Hotel, life began in 1822 when Maren Hansdatter established a country inn called Slukefter Kro. She chose the perfect location because it was on the main road connecting the two largest cities on Funen, Middelfart and Odense, an ideal spot for travellers to get a meal and rest.
The kro was so popular that, in 1911 when the railroad between Odense and Brenderup opened, they built a railway platform in the backyard. The original timbered building burned down in 1928 and the hotel was rebuilt in brick. In 1966, after the railway closed, the name was changed to Frederik VI's Inn, in honour of the king who had given the inn its royal privilege. Now Frederik VI's Hotel, the building is fully modernised and run as a contemporary 4-star hotel and conference centre.
