Bogense Kirke

Take a walk in the past

Bogense Church was erected during the reign of Queen Margrethe I, but has been changed many times.
The roof of the church tower is covered with 27.000 shingles of oak and facing east. Turning east, it also serves as a navigational mark.
The church was dedicated to Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors.
The oldest parts of the alterpiece dates back as far as 1588. The pulpit is dated back to the first half of the 17th century and the crucifix to the 15th century.
In the side nave of the church, you can find grave stones from the noble families of Bogense. In 2009, the church was beautifully renovated.
